# Uploadcare Upload API Reference

> Complete reference documentation for the Uploadcare Upload API. Covers endpoints, requests, parameters, and response examples.

Upload API provides several ways to upload files to Uploadcare servers in a secure and reliable way.

For high-level integrations and SDKs, see [available libraries](/docs/integrations/).

### File storage

Every uploaded file is **temporary** and will be deleted within 24 hours unless stored. To make a file permanent:

* On upload via the [`UPLOADCARE_STORE` flag](https://uploadcare.com/docs/api/upload/upload/base-upload)
* Use [store](https://uploadcare.com/docs/api/rest/file/store-file) or [copy](https://uploadcare.com/docs/api/rest/file/create-local-copy) via the [REST API](https://uploadcare.com/docs/api/rest/)

> **Note**
>
> **Note:** `UPLOADCARE_STORE=auto` delegates the storage decision to the project's [auto-store setting](https://app.uploadcare.com/projects/-/settings/#storage), which is enabled by default.

### File delivery

Once uploaded, files are available via the [CDN](/docs/delivery/). The CDN supports on-the-fly image processing and proxying.

### API endpoints

Upload API root endpoint: `https://upload.uploadcare.com/`

> **Note**
>
> **Note:** All API endpoints must end with a forward slash `/`.
