## Videoframe

Previously, getting a single frame from a video meant generating thumbnails
through an asynchronous video processing job. Now you can extract a still
image at an exact timestamp on the fly with Videoframe:

```
https://:subdomain.ucarecd.net/:uuid/videoframe/00:00:05/
```

* The timestamp is set as `HH:MM:SS[.mmm]` or in seconds, such as `30s`.
* The frame is returned as a PNG at the video's native resolution.
* Any image operations can be appended to resize, crop, or convert the frame,
  including `-/json/`.

Learn more in the [videoframe documentation](/docs/transformations/videoframe/).

## Signed uploads with JWT

[Signed uploads](/docs/security/secure-uploads/) now accept a JSON Web Token in the `Authorization: Bearer` header of Upload API requests. Unlike a signature, a token can be restricted:

* `uc.restrictions.scope` limits the upload methods the token allows, e.g. `["/base/"]` or `["/multipart/*"]`.
* `uc.restrictions.limits.operations` caps how many files the token may upload.

Tokens are signed with HS256 using the SHA-256 digest of your project secret key and live for up to 24 hours. The `signature` and `expire` parameters are now the legacy scheme. They keep working, and File Uploader still uses them. See the [signed uploads guide](/docs/security/secure-uploads/) for enabling the feature and the [Upload API authentication](/docs/api/upload/authentication/#jwt) reference for claims, examples, and the new error codes.

## AI Image Editor beta

Uploadcare now offers an AI Image Editor for generating and editing images with AI, available in beta on all paid plans.

* Users can generate images from a prompt, remove objects, replace backgrounds, recolor, or restyle images with plain-language instructions.
* Powered by FLUX.2 \[max], which keeps characters and products consistent across edits, supports exact brand colors via hex codes, and renders readable text in mockups.
* Available as a File Uploader plugin (Generate image source and AI Edit action), or as a standalone `<uc-ai-image-editor>` component.
* Prompt presets, input mode, and aspect ratios are configurable per project.
* Generations and edits are subject to a daily limit per account during the beta.

Submit feedback through the in-dashboard form during the beta to earn bonus AI operations at launch. Beta terms apply. See the AI Image Editor page in your dashboard for current details.

## File search and filters in the Customer Portal

Previously, search on the Files page only accepted a UUID. You can now search by filename or detected MIME type as well.

* Added a **Type** filter with multi-select across Images, Video, Audio, Documents, Fonts, and Other.
* Added a **Date** filter with presets (Today, Last 7 days, Last 30 days) or a custom range.
* Added a **Size** filter with min/max in MB.

## June 29, 2026

## File search and file tags

Uploadcare REST API v0.7 now supports file search and file tagging.

File search (`POST /files/search/`) supports:

* Full-text, exact, and fuzzy queries across filename, metadata, and MIME type
* Tag, date, size, and image type filters
* Pagination up to 1000 results with highlighted matched tokens

File tags can be assigned at upload or managed via dedicated REST endpoints (get, replace, add, delete). The `tags` field is included in all file info responses in v0.7.

Learn more in the [File search documentation](/docs/file-search/) and [File tags documentation](/docs/file-tags/).

## Signed URLs: self-service setup

Signed URLs are now available on all plans, including free, and can be configured directly from project settings.

* Every project now has a dedicated secure subdomain (`{subdomain}.s.ucarecd.net`) that requires signed requests.
* Signing secrets can be generated from **Settings → Delivery → CDN domain names** in the dashboard.
* Up to two signing secrets can be active at the same time to support key rotation.
* Projects using a legacy `ucarecdn.com` domain must disable it to fully close unsigned access. This action is irreversible.
* Projects using custom CNAMEs are unaffected: existing setups continue to work without any changes.

## Adaptive bitrate streaming: H.265 support and configurable renditions

Adaptive bitrate streaming now supports configurable codec and resolution settings at the project level.

Previously limited to three fixed resolutions (360p, 720p, 1080p) with H.264 only, you can now configure:

* Two codecs: H.264, H.265, or both per resolution
* Eight resolutions: 240p, 360p, 480p, 576p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 2160p
* Up to 16 rendition combinations
* Lower-resolution H.264 renditions are now up to 2x cheaper

Learn more in the [Adaptive bitrate streaming documentation](/docs/adaptive-bitrate-streaming/).

## Uploadcare CLI: `file download` command

The CLI can now download files from the Uploadcare CDN to the local filesystem.

```bash
# Download a single file
uploadcare file download <uuid> --output ./photo.jpg
# Mirror all stored files into ./backup with 8 parallel workers
uploadcare file list --page-all --stored true --json uuid \
  | uploadcare file download --from-stdin --output-dir ./backup --parallel 8
```

Supports streaming to stdout, batch downloads with templated filenames
(`${uuid}`, `${filename}`, `${ext}`, `${effects}`), CDN effects on images,
concurrent downloads, progress reporting, and `--dry-run`.

See the [file download reference](/docs/cli/reference/file/#file-download) for the full flag list.

## Improved Adaptive bitrate streaming experience on Free plan

Adaptive bitrate streaming (ABS) is now easier to test and use on the Free plan.

Several changes were introduced to remove practical limitations and allow meaningful evaluation with real content:

* Maximum file size on the Free plan increased from 10 MB to 500 MB
* Upload restrictions for non-image file types removed
* The default demo project now includes video, document, and image examples

These updates allow users to upload, stream, and evaluate video delivery without hitting plan or file type restrictions.

Learn more in the [Adaptive bitrate streaming documentation](/docs/adaptive-bitrate-streaming/).

## April 23, 2026

## File Uploader Plugin API

A public Plugin API is now available for extending the File Uploader with custom upload sources.

This allows developers to:

* integrate internal media libraries or proprietary storage
* add custom tabs to the uploader interface
* embed additional content sources directly into the upload flow

This reduces the need for workarounds or legacy SDKs and improves parity with the previous uploader for custom source integrations.

See the [File Uploader release notes](https://github.com/uploadcare/file-uploader/releases/tag/v1.29.0).

## April 9, 2026

## Adaptive bitrate streaming available on all plans

Adaptive bitrate streaming (ABS) is now available on all plans.

ABS is enabled by default for new projects. Existing projects can enable it in project settings if needed.

This change removes previous plan-based restrictions, making it easier to integrate adaptive video delivery into your product.

Learn more in the [Adaptive bitrate streaming documentation](/docs/adaptive-bitrate-streaming/).

## April 8, 2026

## Uploadcare CLI

The Uploadcare CLI is now available as a non-interactive interface for working with the platform from the terminal.

It is designed for automation and scripting workflows, including:

* running file operations in CI/CD pipelines
* processing files in bulk without building integrations
* automating repetitive tasks without using the dashboard or SDKs
* integrating Uploadcare into AI agent workflows

All commands are scriptable, return structured output, and support piping.

See the [CLI documentation](/docs/cli/)

## Scheduled downgrades for self-serve users

Users can now schedule a plan downgrade from the Billing page.

Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing cycle, allowing users to retain access to their current plan until the period they have already paid for ends.

The Billing page now shows:

* the current plan
* the upcoming plan after downgrade
* updated limits
* the effective date of the change

Users can also cancel a scheduled downgrade before it takes effect.

You can now select multiple files in the Files page using Shift-click.

This allows selecting a range of files in the list for bulk operations such as delete.

## December 1, 2025

## EXIF Metadata removal

The EXIF Metadata removal feature allows users to remove metadata from images during the upload process.

When this feature is activated in the Dashboard, all newly uploaded images will be stripped of EXIF metadata, ensuring enhanced privacy and security.
It doesn't affect images that have already been uploaded before enabling the setting.

[Dashboard → Uploading](https://app.uploadcare.com/projects/-/settings/#uploading)

**Billing:** Each uploaded image processed with EXIF metadata removal enabled is counted as 1 processing operation.
